The audio and video for this work was recorded in February/March 2020, in the period between the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union and the beginning of the Spring lockdown. It reflects the endless labyrinth of Brexit and the confinement of lockdown. A disembodied presence proceeds along empty corridors and up and down staircases in an anonymous office building, inducing feelings of confinement and disorientation. The field of vision is limited, adding further to the impression of captivity. The soundtrack consists of extracts from declarations of independence originating from emerging states from circa 1918. They reflect many competing forms of nationalism and illustrate the path from basic ideals to violence which so often arises from nationalism.
